wheelchair skills program!

of Brisbane City Council's Active Parks program)
Get
fit at the outdoor gym while sitting or do you fancy a game of roller
blazed wheelchair basketball? You will learn some basketball
skills and the correct way to shoot, pass and catch a ball. Have you ever
played Gotha Boccia? It’s a bowling game similar to the Italian game of
bocce. It requires concentration, strategy and accuracy rather than strength. In all cases wheelchair skills will be learnt plus more.
Where:
Minnippi Parklands, off Meadowlands Road, Tingalpa – meet at the gym equipment
area.
When: Thursdays 4-5pm -
8 October, 22 October, 5 November, 19 November, 3 December, 17 December.
Generate friendships and networks,
learn about life in wheelchairs and have some fun in our new accessible
and inclusive playgrounds. This is where children of all abilities can
experience fun and challenging play alongside their friends and family
members.
Where: City Botanic Gardens,
Alice St, Brisbane City – meet at the all abilities playground.
When:
Sundays 4 October, 6 December 2015, 2-4pm
And
Where:
Whites Hill Reserve, Camp Hill - meet at the all abilities playground.

You can attend
as many as you like. Educational and social sessions for young people
in wheelchairs.
This lifestyle
and mobility program is especially aimed at children 4-18 years, but all
ages welcome. Parent/carer to attend also.
These sessions
will allow kids (and adults) to:
- Generate
friendships and networks
- Learn
more about life in wheelchairs
- Participate
in structured activities including: correct techniques in using a chair,
troubleshooting, stretching/strength/balancing/agility exercises, bottom
lifts, posture, manoeuvering among obstacles, sports & games, spine
education, wheelchair manners, car transfers
- Chat and
explore their own interests – such as sports or hobbies they would
like to try at a future session.
COST
Private 1-on-1 Session is $55 pp
Group Booking of 5 is $45 pp
Group Booking of 10 is $35 pp
PCYC Based Session is $15 pp*
*Includes
morning tea as well as free PCYC Membership.
Prices for participants only – Parents / Carers attend free and
may be required for assistance as needed. Prices are subject to change
without notice.
REQUIREMENTS
A parent/carer to attend. Great way for families to discuss common issues
with each other as well as with the facilitator, George Kambouris.
